Sydney band Sounds of Coma played their debut gig at the Harp on the 3rd of July. They were supported by Four Kings and Indiana.
By the time I had gathered my entourage, Four Kings had been and gone. Indiana took to the stage just as I walked in. Despite a powerful vocal performance they lacked originality and variety in their material. It wasn't a bad performance, It was just very cock rock. Tight tight jeans, wifebeater shirts and an overload of testosterone.
Sounds of Coma made a strong start to their set with the driving Navygirl's Valentine. Lead singer Pete certainly has stage presence and his vocal style is both quirky and powerful. Not only can the boy sing he can really scream! Pete was supported by some very solid work from Randy on drums and Damian on Bass. Randy in particular is a consummate musician with an excess of talent.
SOC's strength lies in their beautifully constructed and original songs. Lyrics are intelligent and the songs contain variety and passion.
Other highlights of the night were the incredibly catchy Where We Stand and the blistering finale to the show, a cover of NERD's Lapdance leading into the powerful Shock and Awe.
A sensational effort for a first show. These boys have the talent to take them a long, long way.
