Le Weasel: i paid for the new incubus
Funkmasta: sap
Le Weasel: yeah
Le Weasel: i thought they may have stopped being lame
Funkmasta: have they?

Uncertain of what to expect after not completely enjoying their last release, and completely avoiding "The Time Lapse Consortium," aCLotM had the benefit of the indifference. Impossible to be better or worse than not expected; barring all manner of sensical grammar. To begin, the album is different to the others, apart from the previous, because I've heard one song and refuse to buy it. The audio component is quite tolerable; easier & less "challenging" (call it not as heavy) as, say, SCIENCE. And a glance at the cover will have some/many people thinking that Zach De La Rocha has joined...
But Incubus bring fond memories for me. Specifically, when the Compadre drove out to witness a promotional performance at Sydney's whorish Fox Studios...
THIS ALBUM is slower than other albums. The lyrics, however, are much the same in that it's not just filler or catchy choruses. Brandon obviously considers himself a poet, or superior lyricist, because he shows a more than average sense of metaphor; something rare for the more popular bands. There is less prominent funky-ass bass than on Fungus Amongus; a fact that will disappoint those who dug it. Some of the songs though are not too bad... they all vary. There's no common style between them all. Even the vocals differ slighty between tracks. Much thought has gone into this album, and would more than likely be enjoyed by those who dug the previous, but not so much those who were into all the others.
THE DVD component has some live footage; no studio film clips at all. And a short film. 16 minutes of music, some chitchat and "behind the scenes" stuff.
Brandon is still quite handsome, and the offer from 3 years ago still stands, should he read this.
........
Le Weasel: it's like there's a sheet of ice that forms the border between "lame" and "rockin", but they're using a feather duster to try & break through, despite having a pickax at their feet...
