Kitchen Antics - Joy of the Baked Apple

Jimmy Weasel - Sunday, November 13, 2005 - Print The Wax

This recipe is a variation on a theme that the Old Boy showed me how to make many moons ago. It's a simple, quick and vaguely healthy (apples!) recipe that has only a few ingredients and minimal preparation time. As a result, there will be no metal or cheap Dutch beer to aid the experience.

Here's what you'll need.

  • 4 large green apples
  • 1 jar of seeded raspberry jam (blackberry will also do (not strawberry))
  • 30 mls Grappa
  • Freshly brewed espresso coffee

Add the Grappa and the coffee to a cup and drink. Then, take the apples, and carefully remove the cores using the technology we know as "an apple corer."

Fashion a plug for the base of your apple by cutting about 1 cm from the bottom of this apple-cylinder. Dispose the remainder of the cores - they are no longer of use to anyone.

Spoon in raspberry jam (you'll need about 2 - 3 teaspoons in each apple, depending upon their size) into the newly created void and wrap completely in aluminium foil.

Then put the apples into a roasting pan and let them sit in a hot (250 degrees) oven for 20 minutes.

Unwrap and serve with custard, and enjoy with another slug of the grappa & espresso

Where in Kentucky - Mammoth Cave National Park
Monstrously, and seemingly neverending, sitting under the home ground of Colonel Sanders, the world's largest cave system. Yucatan comes nowhere close. Not even Cocklebiddy poses a threat. No comparison. Small holes looking up at a big fat long one. Sadly, with possible age and lack of food, no minotaurs to be found within the lime walls.

The octopus is a cephalopod of the order Octopoda that inhabits many diverse regions of the ocean, especially coral reefs. The term may also refer to only those creatures in the genus Octopus. In the larger sense, there are 289 different octopus species, which is over one-third the total number of cephalopod species. One thing is for certain - these buggers are tasty.

And then there are the ads for those looking to participate as audience members for a show they know nothing about.
