Into the role of Miss Universe 2006, and heading the international cartel of the Miss (with members Earth, World and International later this year), Miss Puerto Rico, Zuleyka Jerris Rivera Mendoza. Installed as the 55th bearer of the crown.

Marking the return of Puerto Rico as the nationality of the defender, having held it four times previous, its Rivera's turn to hold the universe in check after the ceremonial passing from last year's Miss Universe, Natalie Glebova.

Where in Kentucky - Mammoth Cave National Park: Monstrously, and seemingly neverending, sitting under the home ground of Colonel Sanders, the world's largest cave system. Yucatan comes nowhere close.
